Not only will these shonen mangas entertain you, but they’ll also teach you something about yourself. All the shonen manga listed below were chosen because they offer something unique to readers of all ages and genders. 1) One Piece

The story follows protagonist Monkey D Luffy who wants to become King of Pirates and find an ancient treasure called “One Piece.” Along with his crew mates named Roronoa Zoro, Nakama Nami (a navigation tactician and thief) and later, Usopp (a sniper and a liar), Luffy sets out to conquer the sea. This shonen manga is very long and full of action and adventure! It’s also full of humor and plenty of emotions. It’s filled with action, adventure, shonen tropes, shonen battles, shonen friendship and shonen romance. There are pirates who wear eye patches, pirates who fight with swords and bazookas (who doesn’t love bazookas?), shonen characters who thoughtlessly risk their lives for others, shonen characters who are so strong that they can knock down mountains with one punch, shonen characters who can breathe fire or turn their bodies into steel…I could go on.

2) Vagabond

Based on an older shonen manga named “Musashi,” this shonen tells the tale of young samurai Miyamoto Musashi. In the shonen, Musashi struggles to hone his sword skills and defeat powerful opponents. In his journey, he learns more about himself and gains a greater understanding of the world around him.

3) Dragonball

Goku is a monkey-tailed boy who practices martial arts and has superhuman strength from training with his grandfather Gohan. In his journey, he meets new friends and creates a martial arts team to defend the Earth from villains. This shonen manga is filled with action and sometimes has underlying messages about certain things such as teamwork or fighting for what you believe in.

4) Slam Dunk

Sakuragi Hanamichi is a delinquent basketball player who, after getting rejected by several girls and shamed by his basketball team members, meets Haruko Akagi. Sakuragi starts learning to play basketball in order to impress her, but he quickly learns that playing on a team with your friends can be more fun than on your own. This shonen manga is filled with shonen tropes such as shonen battles and shonen friendship. It’s got a lot of humor, shonen romance and even some shonen action!

5) Naruto

In this shonen manga, a teenage ninja named Uzamaki Naruto wants to be the Hokage (highest ninja in the village). In his journey, he befriends other ninjas and trains with them to get strong enough to become stronger than Sasuke Uchiha who always tries to fight him.
